Spoiling Yourself: Concierge Level at Hotels

Concierge Level -- the very phrase conjures up an image of your own personal hotel staff member, catering to your every request, no matter what time of night.

Is it worth it? The answer depends on the particular hotel's service at concierge level and your own personal needs. Here's a rundown of what you can expect.

What is Concierge Level?

Generally, a hotel that offers concierge level rooms has an entire floor (or a section of a floor) which receives extra-special service. This might include premium quality sheets and pillows, a reception area with complimentary food and drinks, and of course, a special concierge desk to help you with requests.

What does it cost?

The cost varies widely per hotel, but you can expect to pay about 50% above standard rack rates for a room at concierge level.

What does it include?

Hotels vary in the amenities available, so check with them before booking your room. For example, Doubletree offers a concierge lounge with breakfast, beverages and hors d'oeuvres. In the rooms, all the extras, such as a blowdryer, coffee maker, ironing board, complimentary robes and newspaper, are included.

Concierge Level Profile: The Grand Floridian Resort in Walt Disney World

Concierge service in the main building is located on the third, fourth and fifth floors of the resort. Guests have access to private check-in desks on the third floor.

Your room key gives you access to the Concierge Lounge, where food is served throughout the day. Breakfast is Continental and includes cereal, oatmeal, donut holes, muffins, bagels, yogurt, coffee, tea and juice. Lunch includes all types of finger sandwiches, vegetables, cookies, brownies and soft drinks. Mid-afternoon tea is served with, of course, scones with butter or jam, plus cookies and lemonade. Dinner includes specials from one of the resort's four gourmet restaurants, plus cheese and crackers, lamb chops, quiche, wine and soft drinks. There's even a midnight snack that involves chocolate eclairs chocolate-covered strawberries and cordials. You can eat very well at this resort, all for the price of your room. Plus, snacks can be taken out of the room midday for consumption in the theme parks.
